Hello all,

I am new to this forum but after relocating back to home grounds of Richmond Va and finding somethings I thought I would ask for help. My uncle owns several acres of land with bluffs over looking the James river and Henricus park near Dutch gap( first settlement up stream from Jamestown). I found this interesting Quartz peice about 3 inches beneath the soil on top of the bluff overlooking the river. This place was also the bluffs where confederate barracks were stationed that led to Dutch gap being dug. I haven't yet metal detected this land yet as I have been intrigued by all the stone flakes and worked chips around the bluffs.

Thanks for the help!!!

Quartzite like that makes it very difficult to see the workmanship, but groups in your area used it extensively.

The rounded surface is the original exterior of the cobble.

Like Joshua said, it is really hard to see if that piece is actually flaked or if it's natural fracturing.
