I recently took my Excal II on a dive and at full volume while breathing, I cant here it hit. I have to hold my breath which is a no no while diving. At this point the machine is useless to me for diving. Is there an upgrade that retains my warranty. Minelab knows their earphones are a weak link should I call them and get an approval? Can someone with the grey ghost chime in and give me feedback on how loud they are. Thanks in advance. On the beach, I can hear just fine, its the diving that I cant.

If you're wearing a hood, you may have to cut some holes in it around your ears. Otherwise, I've never heard of an issue with sound on one. You've cranked the volume all the way up and brought the threshold up to a slight buzz and you can't hear a target sound? Maybe an issue with the machine. I never get mine over half way or else it's too loud. I've only snorkeled and free dove with mine however....but I have used a full, unmodified hood with no problem. I do have to turn mine up a tad when I use the hood.

I had the same issues with my SEAHUNTER 2 - I even started a thread identical to this one!:laughing7:

anyway, after some good suggestions (but impractical) such as, 'get a bubble diverter for your reg' or ' go back to single hose' I bought the GRAY GHOST AMPHIBIANS and now have to turn the volume down a little!

well worth the money!!

Can you hear it okay when out of the water?

out of the water I can hear it fine. Its just when im breathing-air out that's difficult to hear. Im gonna do the grey ghost. IM using my warranty to check my battery pack and replace my coil that came with a crack and then modifying the machine. Thanks guys.
