When I got the SE, I noticed that the sound of silver or larger silver/clad coins and rings was a lower pitch, not the high pitched squeal of the XS I have. At the time of the SE being new, the cursor is about the same place on the screen, just the tones are lower.

Except for some problems with the cursor and tones being way off today, and doing Iron Patch's reset recommendations to fix it, my SE generally has a lower set of tones compared to the XS model.

What are you finding from owning or working with another owner to be able to tell any difference between tones/pitches of the Explorers?

Also, if you find a heavy gold ring, does the sound seem flutey and higher like the sound of a clad penny and the cursor in that higher screen area? My SE shows heavy gold rings in that higher zone, not the lower tone and cursor down around the 5cent Nickel and pulltab zone...

Any help is appreciated,
Bill

Thanks,
Bill

The XS and II are the same. Someone should be able to say if the say if the SE is as well. With as many views as there is so far I can't believe there's not a person that has used both. (XS or II & SE)

They sound the same to me but I set mine up from the get go. The pitch/tone is adjustable on all the explorers.
The SE comes factory set a little different than the earlier Explorers.
try adjusting your threshold tone and make sure your threshold variability is wide open.

But after a factory reset they should sound the same and it seems his SE does not.

Not sure how you come up with that info, did minelab tell you this?

I am saying with the available adjustments on the SE you should be able to make it sound the way you like. A friend of mine has his set high for silver, he likes that silver screaming whereas for me thats not important as Im usually after gold jewelry so somewhere in the middle is fine.

My comment was to Bill. He made the post above as a result of another thread trying to figure out his detector problem. My comment was having the other thread in mind. His SE sounds do not seem ritght and I was just saying that if they continued to be bad after a reset there is obviously a problem.

Hi Bill,

I just checked my SE and what you should try is hit your menu button, then pick audio and then pick tone. the top adjustment in tone is your threshold tone, try adjusting that upward, that will give you a higher pitch for silver and higher conductive items. also, you want to set your variabibility to full also, so you get the full range of tones.
Now gold rings hit in a lot of places depending on their mass and what they are made of. A heavy class ring of 14k is gonna hit up close to zinc penny and Ive actually found one ring that is 22k that is a mans wedding band, decent size, that hits as a zinc penny, but thats the only one Ive found up that high. Most of the rings I find are actually below a nickel, usually they are ladies rings of some sort and thin. Now the 14k mens weddings bands (again all these vary in size and karat which will put them in different spots) are usually at nickel or just above in the tabs range.
Look at that bracelet I have on my profile, that is 14k and weighs 55.5grams, almost a full 2ozs and it hits in at just above a nickel, low tab range. I was told bracelets and chains read by the link, not sure if thats true.
hope this helps.

Nothing to be sorry for. I wouldn't expect anyone to understand thoughts posted based on another post. It's all good.
