I wear out coil covers and last year stopped using them. Because some of the places I've been hunting are rocky the nicks, scratches and even chips in my most used coil have caused falsing and even compromised it being water proof. So I've read where people seal their coils using stuff like bathtub calk, etc. The latest post I could find on this subject a guy is using something called liquid tape.

What's your opinion pro or con? What's the best material? Do you have any links to how to videos?

Coil covers are a whole lot cheaper than a coil. It will protect your coil so long as you take it off periodically and clean both it and the coil. I wouldn't seal it on because stuff is still going to,find its way under the cover and wreck your coil.

I seal mine with a good silicon caulk. I've had them sealed for several years, and they work fine. had them in the water, and trickled dirt on them while nugget hunting, and I've never had a problem. Use a little care to make sure they're completely sealed, and check them now and then and you should be good to go. I've also heard of people using truck bed liner material as a wear face on the bottom and sides. That sounds like a reasonable alternative to wear covers, but you'd probably have to redo it now and then. It would eliminate the problem of the seal leaking, if you had the problem, on conventional covers.

As mentioned......either keep buying new coil covers or use some pickup bed liner spray or brush-on stuff.
