Hit some water spots this afternoon. Got flat buttons, an 186? IHP and an early button at one spot. It sure looks early(circa 1700) but everything else there was 19th century. Got the sweet square nail holed 1853 dime at another spot and finished the day at another spot with a nice looking 1878 dime under the weird brown tarnish

Nice diggin' on these four. The Seated with the square nail hole is a interesting find. Sounds like you covered some ground to come up with these, but it isn't often you see 2 seated same day. Nice!!

Interesting thing about the spot where I got the holed seated is that it is full of brass square nails. Probably from ship building/repair or dock construction perhaps

Nice. You get a ton of Seated.

Nice seateds. Hope you keep one square nail to go with the holed seated.

great finds !!

Be proud to find that stuff, as each item has a story to tell...!

Nice finds! Just curious...did people punch holes into coins as a way of carrying them (sans wallet), pendants, or what?

aj

Hey man, you ever get a clear pic of that paste button with the cross thingy underneath? Intrigued.

I don’t know but probably for various reasons including safekeeping. Ive found a holed 17th century French silver, 17th century Spanish cob, a couple holed 18th /early 19th century Spanish milled silvers, a US Large Cent, Barber dime and now a Seated dime

I just realized the button is probably actually a leather ornament but still looks earlier than the other stuff. Better pic of the silver too

Nice job on the Seated coins.

Way ta go. Super day.:icon_thumright:

Finding two seated dimes in day is a pretty great accomplishment! The fact that one is holed with a square nail is pretty interesting. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah not often you find a holed US silver. Ive got quite a few holed colonial era silvers though

Nice!!!!!!! Seated anything is right at the top of my bucket list. Nice that one is holed as well, only holed coin I even found was a largie but the guy didn’t finish the hole, just I giant dent dead center to ruin my coin. Congrats!!!!!!
