Primary Interest:
Beach & Shallow Water Hunting
My second hour out after work experimenting with different settings with my CZ20. I stopped digging everything and set the detector to Auto Tune (all metal). I would switch over to "0" when I got a hit on a target to check the tone. If it was a low iron, I did not dig. Medium and high tones that were deep, I dug. Seems like this is the way to go. One IH 1883 and one wheatie 1928. Those zincs were on the surface and were dug early. The rifle casing is modern and not an uncommon find in this park! HH

Nice Indian head and finds your doing good with that machine, congrats!!!!

Thats the way to do it, use autotune then click to iron, if not iron, dig it. cz20 is a deep land monster even with small coil.

Gleaner1, wasn't sure how it would hold up on land. Auto tune stablizes the machine and I can tell right away which targets are deep. I'm using a 10" coil, so I can't wait to get back when I have more than an hour to hunt.

nice stuff, dave ....too bad we can't do some serious digging there, trash pits,latrines,etc......should be some stuff left over from this......camp park.webp

You are right about that. I have seen this picture before and it makes me salivate! In many spots, digging down about 8-10 inches, you start getting oyster shells and pottery shards. You know there has to be some great stuff DEEP!

Great IH! keep on digging!

That Indian is in great shape. Congrats!

That cz20 is a good machine.I just put a ten inch coil on my old cz3d and it does a great job on plucking out the deep ones.congrats on the IH.

Yes autotune is very stable and I prefer the cz in the cleaner grounds for deep stuff. In the trash, especially with big coil, set scrim at rock bottom to accept iron. Do a good bobbing gb in a metal free area. Keep the sense very low, say two or three, maybe four if you can take it. If you change the sense, you must re-ground balance. This should help you hunt in the trash better, you will be able to hear all iron and the machine will be good and stable. The machine responds best with a faster swing speed, but slow down drastically in the trash, recovery time is not the fastest. The cz loves iron, so round rust like washers and bottle caps, and bigger rusty nails will break high pitch the first time the coil gets close, but the machine quickly fades back to low pitch grunts as you home in on it. The closer the iron gets to the the center of coil, the less it will pop high pitch, and will grunt low tone very convincingly. This is hard to explain and takes a while to get a feel for. The cz20 is not a water machine, it is a cz5 that can get wet, so if you are on dry land, hang on, its a beast.

Thanks for the info and advise. I've had this machine for YEARS, and it has done me well in and around water. I am very familiar with it's sensitivity and depth. I do think some amazing finds are coming my way!

I have to avert my eyes when I go by this area!:tongue3: I have friends who have pulled III cent pieces and buttons here. My luck, I would find a clad quarter and then get chased off. Congrats and HH
