Well went out today for the second time ever and it was just like the first. Not much of anything. I started at the beach and found a clad dime and was there an hour. I don't know if I am not doing something right or there just isn't that much on the beach!?!? :icon_scratch:
Then I went to the park and found another clad dime 11 pennies none of which were wheaties and a clad quarter it was a state quarter. And I found like a key chain part I guess that is what it is but that was the most exciting thing I found. I think I am going to stick to the beach for a while though because I have a lot of trouble in the dirt. My detector will beep over something and I will pinpoint it the best I can and dig and there will be nothing there so I will run my detector over the hole and it will still beep so I will dig a little deeper and so on until I just get frustrated enough that I fill in the hole and move on. :-\ Then sometimes it seems like the signal will move. I will dig the hole where I am sure the spot is and put all the dirt to the right and then I will run the detector over the hole and the signal will move to the right I don't get it maybe I should get what you guys call a pinpointer? Anyways I think I will just stick to the beach tomorrow and see what happens. here is a pic of the key ring thing though.

Hello Derek!
Man, we've all been there! Learning a new detector or hobby can certainly be frustrating! One thing about beach hunting, it's generally easy to dig. Do you have a scoop? I remember getting my SE; using it for the first dozen times or so. I learned to make it a habit to go where I knew there were plenty of coins. School yards, soccer fields, tot lots. Practice does make perfect. Or, at least almost! Lol!

May I ask which detector you are using?

Also, using a smaller coil can really help on locating targets. And, a probe is definitely a plus.
I like the inline probe from SunRay. It's always handy and you don't have to worry about losing it. :)

Good luck!

I am using a bounty hunter tracker 4. I don't have a scoop I just use my detector and a little garden shovel that my detector found on the beach my first day out lol.

My ace 250 will get a coin signal from aluminum cans. Some of those cans would be down 12 & 14 inches. Finally figured out when I had one located by the way it would act in all metal mode when pinpointing. I don't dig too many of them any more. Keep on digging you'll start to see a pattern to certain items. A pinpointer is nice for those tough digs, I use a cheapy centech model. Don't use it very often, but nice when you need it.

Its just bit past my first month into detecting, when u dig for my posts you will see how it goes,no one tech me nothing i read thru posts watch videos on youtube and my dvd with came with detector..
My first week was without any scoop, all hand job terrible but i got some finds, next week i made my own scoop, lol it was terrible but worked, now i have plastic scoop a must have on the beach .

With scoop my retr. time speed up minimum 5times,i do have small shovel.
I found almost 1000 coins in 4 weeks, bit silver, but cant find gold, just recently got my gold nugget to test my machine and guess what under 3-4inch of sand it gives me readout of -8,-4 with is ferrous ,now im seriously worried :icon_scratch: on how many gold rings i walk and don't dig them .

First thing to do for you go to that beach when its full of pple and investigate where is the blanket belt, where they play etc.,thats what i do,next day i usually hit 50-100coins in spots like that.

I didnt go to park yet or to soccer field,so on the grass i be green to ;D

I cant give u advice about setups of your machine but i ebt tehres tons of ple here with use same unit.
Good luck, you will get all treasures sooner or later.

Starting out is a little frustrating at times, but
you seem to be doing well. Just continue to
learn your machine and the treasures will come!

Hey dude, it don't matter which detector you have or experience, if your starting off just have fun, the rest will come with time and practice.
