Trying to get a quick hunt in yesterday before the rain. Been hitting a 1930's and 40s neighborhood in a seedier part of town, but it hasn't been pounded like so many other older affluent areas.

So, hit a shallow overload signal on my Simplex. This is almost always a smashed aluminum can. In a park, I would have passed but since these yards haven't been hit much, I don't mind pulling out the cans. Took a shallow angle with the shovel so I could "pop" the soil and wiggle the can out, but reaching in, there was no can. There was however, a quarter, then another, so I figured coin spill. Turns out it was 3 state quarters, 1 clad dime and one very nice 18k gold chain\necklace :) All about an inch below the grass.

This is the second piece of gold jewelry from the same neighborhood. Better to be lucky than good. Going back today since the rain drove me off before I could finish the yard.

Sorry for the picture quality but thanks for peaking at my goodies. HH and a special Memorial Day thanks to all who serve........

That's not a gold necklace. Take it to a jeweler if you don't believe me.

Better luck next time out!

Very common fake. I found two of them laying in the street a couple of months ago. Same exact design, same stamp, same fake look.

From someone who has found over 1000 pieces of gold jewelry - Sorry...have to agree that it looks like fake gold
18k rarely ever turns color (it depends what the other metal(s) make up the other 6K)

Sorry to say that I agree. I don't think that chain is going to be real gold. Like some of the others, I have found a fake chain that is stamped. Still a neat find.
