I have about 40 pounds of crushed aluminum cans and a free ride to the scrap yard. Should I sell now or keep hoarding and wait till prices go higher? Anyone have any insight on what prices might do in the future? Thanks!

Precious metals scrap is my thing but, in 40 years of dealing with it, I have never played the market. No matter what the metal is, I feel it is always better to turn your money as fast as possible, even if you take a loss on a deal. The next deal will be better. Each deal makes you wiser.

A wise man once told me that there were only 2 experts in the world, concerning price changes in the market place. One thought it would go down and the other thought it would go up. Turn your money. Don't cry over spilt milk.

I sold my scrap today cause I figured why not clear out my shed but I would hold on till the winter. Prices may go up some and cans take a lot to pay off if you ask me. Good luck!
Pepperpump ;D

Thanks for the advice. Both of you made some good points that really got my gears turning. I think I'll just keep hoarding till I have a day off to go cash them in. That could be next week or next month or whenever. Since they're just cans and in a small quantity, no use worrying. Thanks again!

I'm sitting on around 400 pounds of aluminum cans. Even with this load, I don't think it makes that much difference with the price. I'll turn 'em in when I turn 'em in.

Hey, if I could predict the markets -- scrap, Dow Jones or otherwise -- I wouldn't be messing around collecting this stuff. Your guess, fiatboy, is as good as mine.

I am holding on to my aluminum because I have a bunch of copper to strip. If I have to drive close to my scrap yard I will sell it to make space.

I would sell if I have some and am already going by the scrap yard( Free ride etc. saves on gas.) same price per # 40# or 100# hard to outguess the market. of course if you have room it does feel better to get $100 vs $20 put in your hand makes it seem more profitable and worth your time ;D

I tend to agree with the other people on this topic. I don't play the market either. When I've got it I usually go ahead and sell it. One reason for this on my part is limited storage space. Now I did hold off here recently on selling my stainless steel for it was in a long, extended price fall. I knew it would find a bottom sometime and it finally did. And it did bounce up and prices are rising on it. Don't expect it to get back up to it's altime high again though. Also, aluminum doesn't really have big price fluctuations like copper for example. If you go ahead and sell you aluminum and get 65 cents/lb. for example you won't see it double in price a couple of weeks later. Aluminum doesn't do this. Copper, quite possible. Aluminum, no. I'm selling some stuff tomorrow so I'll see what it brings. Regards, Chris.

Thanks for the great replies everyone!!! :)
