never considered that, but I figure the refiner has that built into the discounted price they are giving us anyways.

Discount? I never had a refiner give me any discount , but instead they charge me from anywhere between 5%-18%. That's why I thought off weighing out the halves and sell them the lighter ones.
But my question is, am I wasting my time doing that? I mean ya, I sold them the lighter ones, but would the heavier ones worth more??

If you sell to APMEX, it's per coin.. not how much each one weighs. I've never heard of any dealer buying per weight. That's nit picking if you ask me. Perhaps it matters to recyclers but not dealers.

i meant they buy at a "discount" from spot, i.e. if they give you 93% of spot i'm sure that 7% has some cushion for the fact that alot of these coins show 1-2% wear.

i just sell to local dealers for a agreed upon price per coin, never a question of weight.

Thanx for all of your reply, I guess it's pointless to weigh them out.
One more question, if weight does not matter, then how come I have had people told me several times that when it comes to buying junk silver, get those in better condition/less worn ones,as you'll get more silver out of them.
So, if weight does not matter, how come some tend to go with the better quality one, when they buy junk silver?

true but a dealer will more than likely take wear into consideration into his offer. or like me buy a bag of coins and have a dealer pawn off 15 very worn SL quarters as full pop. So there is some consideration as to weight but in my opinion a eyeball thing more than a gram scale

I have seen a dealer weigh 90% dimes. In general, 40% weight would not be as crucial.
