Hello Seano; Your item is a boat bailer. These old wooden bailers are fairly common along the maine coast, as boats are so prevalent in the region. What is most unique about yours is the picture of the boat on back...it is an extremely accurate rendition of a pinky schooner, a type of fishing/workboat seen in Maine around 1830-1850 (approx.). The term "pinky" refers to the distinctive high pinched stern so clearly illustrated on your bailer. Whoever drew that knew their boats...it is perfect..even rigged correctly! VERY cool! Definately not Shaker!
Thanks
Elee

huh, doesn't look like it would be very efficient at moving water. I would have guessed a dust pan. Learn something new everyday.

Thanks for the info. Elee, especially about the boat! My wife swore it was a grain scoop. Doesn't appear to have been used.
