I went out to the site of an old 1800s schoolhouse today.
I have hit this area before but this time I wanted to try some different settings on the AT Pro.
Finding a bit of clad, headstamps, and old bullet and a musket ball AND my first "3 cent nickel".
First the finds:

Now the musket ball. Question, can anyone tell the age by my picture? It maybe dropped. The side has a small dented run but it looks to round to be fired BUT I really do not know about these balls.

Now (drum roll) the 3 cent nickel. It hit between 42-46. It was about 6" deep. At first glance I thought it was a trime because I saw the III first. It was so small, I never seen a trime up close or a 3 cent nickel. Then I thought play money but then was able to see lady liberty and was super stoked.
When I got home I gently cleaned with water but just wasn't getting detail.

Then I got out my fiber brush, salt, and olive oil and was able to get more detail.
It looks like an 1886 but they only made proofs that year.I can see the 188 and slightly the 6. I am thinking maybe 1866. I actually found an 1865 2 cent piece a few weeks ago just a couple feet away from this spot.

She is crusty but I am very excited to be able to save her
