What is it & a stirrup at the above link.

I was on my own today for 4 hours & decided to try a pasture field we have not done. This time of year was good as the sheep are no longer present & with the flood conditions the drilled crop fields are out of bounds.

I'm pretty impressed with this field & with some work, a nice Georgian item may appear:dontknow:

£1.19 Cash
Crotal Bell (complete & rings)
4 Shoe Buckles (2 good complete ones I think I need)
Coins & bits...

Nice digs!!!!! Do you know what the brass rings were used for? Find em all the time and don't know what they were used for?????

Difficult to answer, other than lots of things. They were about in the Roman period & used ever since. Harness rings is one thought, buttons, suspension loops, etc...

Those are some killer buckles.

Cheers:occasion14:

Merry X-Mas all!

Hi Cru, I know over there Georgian sites aren't what's usually chosen from the menu but when we dig stuff like that here we're thinking rev war and GW buttons :) I was wondering about the spoon bowl, is that one with the seal stamped in it? We find them here but not too often. I've got one with a thistle and another with a bust of a man, not sure who it is though.... Dave

Well spotted, it's the oldest find in the bunch; 'A tinned copper-alloy slip-top spoon bowl'. Its 17th C (I think, maybe 18th) & has a 'Thistle' stamped on the bowl, its not the usual shape which throw me a bit!

I think this is only my 3rd one of this size with a stamp on it.

Is that a crotal bell next to the spoon head?
