Shipwrecks in Rio de la Plata

Hello my TH friends,

Can anybody give me some help with the topic of shipwrecks in the waters of Uruguay? It seems to me very ingteresting..... I found out "Nuestra Señora de la Luz", "Nuestra Señora de la Asuncion", "Santa Aurora", "El Francia" and, of course, "Graf Spee". But on the other hand I found out that only on "Banco Ingles", a sandbar in the middle of Rio de la Plata, hav been reported more than 500 shipwrecks...?? I tried to contact University of the Republic in Montevideo, their Department of Marine Archaeology, but without any success. I also heard that Barry Clifford has been working there with the underwater salvage Project "Animas"......

Wow! What year is that breechloader? Can't be 1818?
Archaeologists make mistakes too. When I was in Mozambique, the head of the underwater archaeology department at the University Eduardo Mondlane recovered several iron cannons from a Portuguese wreck. They are now just a pile of rusty flakes on the university campus.

Thanks for these fantastic photos and for the info. I have got couple of friends from Montevideo and they woke up my interest for shipwrecks in this part of the world. There should be many Portuguese shipwrecks in the area and you are, no doubt, expert in this field.... Thanks one more time for sharing, Alexandre!

Well, give to Caesar what belongs to Cesar. The shipwreck cannons which belonged was legally registered by Ruben Collado. Collado sued the authorities claiming the share.

Ruben recovered 4,000 coins from the Nuestra Señora de la Luz in Montevideo. The mint of Santiago de Chile coined about 62,000 in 1748. All came on this shipwreck. 58,000 still to be recovered.
Ruben took $ 6 million, which 50% went to Uruguay. With this money, Uruguay built a school and bought items for the naval prefecture. A good example of social use of the treasures. Other countries, with vast underwater heritage should do the same and not borrow money.

I'm so sick of this guy, why do any you respond to any of his posts? He is totally
against what we all are trying to do, which is shipwreck salvage and actually get
to keep a good percentage of the finds. He is just your typical Socialist sucking on the
Govt. teat and lurking on our posts.

50% of 600 million is 300 million? OK?
And 50% of 6000 million is 3000 million.
I believe that with 3 billion we can make many projects and schools that now do not exist. One had to be built with money generated by a treasure hunter (Mr. Ruben Collado). How many archaeologists can say the same? Anyway, why does not recover Spain, Mexico or Portugal for social purposes? Social and cultural !!
