Think I have a possible shaft abrader and scraper here. I am not able to identify the stone that this scraper is made from and whether or not it is broken. It is a very smooth stone with a tiny edge. Also found a hunk of quartz that I believe is the broken off end of a tool. Please tell me what you see. Thanks!

I agree, it’s one or the other.

I have a several hundred thumb-scrapers, and I will be Looking at some that I am sure resemble that piece.

I'm sure you'll find some. I posted one myself in fact. Personally, I think it's as I speculated earlier, the determinant is the material, at the moment. I mean, you've admitted you don't even know gun spalls that well, and neither do I. If it's a European flint, then I would not expect it to be a native scraper. So, rather then try to separate them by form, since it does very closely resemble the D shaped gun spalls shown, and does also in fact resemble some of the flints shown as well, I would try to ID the material. That's the best I could really do in an online format, but I'm not knowledgeable in European flints to actually do so in an online format. We already know it resembles some scrapers, and I can find as much in my own collection as well. So what? It won't really prove a thing. Obviously, the two forms closely resemble each other. What is needed is somebody who is on top of their European flints to actually examine it. If it's a European flint, there's your answer. I am not in a position to do that, but the OP, on the other hand, can easily take it to the Robbins Museum some time, if they wish. And they can tell if it's a New York flint, for instance, or a European flint. In fact, they can identify it fairly easily in person. I'm sure they will be in a position to distinguish gun spall from scraper in this case. They have some on display, and they ID stuff from New England all the time.

It’s ok everyone- I’m satisfied!!! [emoji51][emoji51]if I didn’t have a soul I would strike it with some black iron just to settle this but sorry it’s not happening hehe
