Went to a older friends house today ..he had lost a $3500 ring last year...I said I would give it a try to see if I could fiind it.

So I went there today before the freeze sets in for winter.

The house is 200 years old..... he allowed me to hunt the property wherever I wanted to go...awesome !!

Buttttttttttttt... lol.. he wanted to talk more than anything.

He let me look for the ring ...no luck.. but he needs to whipper snip the grass where he thinks it might be and his machine wouldn,t go...so I,ll try next week.

So... I tried to move on to look around the property....but he went with me everywhere which was fine with me... however all he wanted to do was tell me stories about almost everything...so outta about 7 hours there I prolly got to detect about 3 hrs max.. half of which was for the ring.

I,m invited back again .. so all good..lol.

Found the 1918 copper only about 1 inch deep beside the driveway..... why is it in such great shape ?????

Looks like the round container is a old make-up case.

Nothing special...just thought I,d post and see if anyone knows why this copper would stay in such great shape as compared to most old coppers.

Probably wasn't lost that long ago and the ground may have been well drained due to the driveway, that's my guess anyway!

It was meant to be found today by you so your buddy would invite you back for more detecting. HH

And as always thank you for sharing!!!

LOL..your probably correct.....so then he can tell me more stories !!!!!

That lock part is a big one. Nice finds

Dig until your arm falls off

Is it copper or bronze? I found a 1905 English 1 penny several months ago and it too looked as good as yours. Maybe British copper is superior to American, lol. Great finds. Hope you find a great surprise when you return.

They are stories that are the same as we are all looking for "history". I'm not but 33 years old, but had and have many elderly friends. I would give anything if I had recorded or come home and wrote many of the stories I heard from my elderly friends. We can dig history 24/7 but can't ever get the the good times and good stories you have with friends back after their gone.

Please don't think I'm trying to put you down, because that's the last thing on earth I want anyone to think I'm doing. I just wish I knew much more about a lot of elderly peoples lives because it would give me new places to hunt and know more about the land I'm hunting.

Yes ..I agree with you 1000% ..I have many older folks who are friends...I enjoy their stories and am very respectfull of my elders as my parents taught me to be.

He told me of the community history of his area...

One good story he told was...

In back of his property ..the next property over..there was an old fortress which had tunnels leading to or from it.

Also there was an old road/path called Lover,s Lane..but is only barely recognizable in a couple spots...very interesting stuff !!!! and old !!!

So I gotta go see the property owner and see if I can check it out.. a great lead for sure !!!!

Sounds like you have found some great prospects. Keep us posted on your future hunts.

Thanks for sharing some of his stories,

Matt

Nice find! Sometimes there's more gold in the stories older people tell, they are walking history books with personality, and they know other older people! You may just end up with several untouched areas to hunt. HH!

You are very correct... while I was having coffee with him his brother stopped by....he owns a big old property 1780s with a lot of land..... I,ll be hitting him up for sure.

Also his neighbour came by to see what I was doing and told me of a old school that is currently a house all fixed up looking modern... would have never known.

Another great lead !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i found a bell the same shape, design and size about a month ago or so... i swore up and down when i was diggin it that it was a large copper, but i was just as happy with the bell. first fully intact one i have in the collection!

Nice finds! I think the soil and conditions happened to be just right for that copper.
