It was the kind of hunt where you slowly get taller. Once the mud gets to two inches scrape it off on the shovel and start over. Well anyway got a few finds 62 Washington, cool tube shaped lighter from the 1940s, and this saddle badge?

I like it alot . Davers

They look very similar to Confederate bedroll buckles. See attached image - Confederate_bedroll_buckle.webp

Also very similar to Confederate martingale hearts (from horse tack). I'm attaching an image of one I found here in a Confederate camp in Florida. It's in the center of the group.

I rarely post an ID-contradiction outside the What-Is-It forum, but I must speak up here to publicly correct a longstanding mis-identification among relic-diggers. I'm doing it to save y'all from paying $50 for a so-called Confederate civil war relic which is actually only from the 1890s and later.

The "Confederate blanket roll buckles" have been proven beyond ANY doubt to be civilian horse-harness buckle shields. This type was invented and patented in 1892. It is shown for sale in early-1900s Sears-&-Roebuck Mail Order catalogs. Some have a heart emblem, some have a bullseye emblem, and some are plain (as shown in the inventor's Patent-diagram). Charlie Harris wrote an extensive article about them in American Digger magazine. Afterward, a relic-researcher found the inventor's 1892 US Patent showing them. Please don't pay $50 -- or even $5 -- for them as being a Confederate civil war relic.

??? maybe it's me eyesight going bad , had a recent surgery to fix them , but my eyes see three and you say you found one

Still cool finds. That article by Charlie Harris that Cannonballguy posted is pretty good. I have met Mr. Harris as he lives not far from me. I would enjoy digging them all day they are nice relics to find.

No disappointment here about these not being CW related, as I have hunted this site to death and have found nothing military of that era. I assumed they were saddle adornments made in the late 1800s early 1900's. Another cool find from a fantastic site. Anyone into privy digging that is around central Kentucky pm me as I am positive i have located at least two. Site dates to 1780.
