I got $1,000 and headed back to the town I hit last Friday.
Bank #1 was attached to a grocery store. The teller told me she had 1 half about 2 months ago but none since. She said they don't get any more than that.
Bank #2 had $17.50 in their counting machine. No keepers.
Bank #3 had a very nice teller. She asked how many halves I wanted and I told her $500 if she had that many. She went into the vault and came out with 5 cardboard $100 trays of halves with 1 roll missing. She really wanted to give me $500 since thats what I asked for so she asked another teller if there were any more halves around. The other teller said she thought there was a bag of halves in the vault. My teller found a bag with $500 in rolls in the vault. I told her I would take all $990. That bank ended my hunting much sooner than expected. in this $990 I found
2-1964
3-1967
1-1968-D
1-1969-D
1-2005-P (Album hole filler)
2-2005-D (Album hole filler)
I also found my 2nd 1974_D Double Die
Not a huge silver stash but some decent finds.
I have found more than 30 gun metal gray halves searching this town. Does anyone know what created these halves? My first guess is some High School science project that was dumped after they were done with the halves, but I'm not sure what chemical reaction would cause this color. Any suggestions?
