Although the day was cooler the humidity was off the chart & 5 hours gridding was plenty for me.
We had given this Roman/Early Saxon Site a years rest, & now was the time to grid again. They had given it a small turn to push under the oil-seed rape stalks & then graded it to a good enough condition.
This never had many silver on it & in 2018 we were only getting an average of 10 bronzes an outing. Today we were getting 6 an hour average, so were pretty happy with the end result:
30 Roman Bronze Coins (1 we need, & a new mint, details below)
Holed Roman Coin in the early Saxon period.
Tudor Leather Mount (Heart Shaped)
1/2 a Medieval Swivel
Tiny Iron Age (Celtic) Fibula
Small Roman Disc Brooch
Follis of Constantine I AD 312-313:
Obverse: IMP CONSTANTINVS PF AVG
Reverse: SPQR OPTIMO PRINCIPI, Legionary Eagle between 2 Standards
Mint mark MOSTQ - Ostia (the port of Rome) Q officina (only minted coins AD308-313)
Coin reverse is a revival of a type issued by Trajan 2 centuries before.
