Back in the 1980's, I bought a Whites 5000/D detector and found lots of CW items, coins, and lots of neat stuff. Some of it I still have. I loved metal detecting but ended up getting married, having two kids, selling the detector to pay bills along the way. We'll I never forgot that old Whites detector and when my 16 year old son saw a detector at a flea market and wanted me to buy it for him, boy was I happy. I finally know something my 16 year old boy didn't (go figure). We'll I bought the Garrett Compass for $10.00 and he was happy. He went out and found a few coins with it and boy did he get hooked. We'll since my knowlege was with the old 5000D, I found one on ebay and bought it for him. I've been teaching him how to use it and he's having lots of fun. Well, not to be outdone, I found a Whites 6000D/Series 2 and we go out periodically. So after 25 years, I'm back in business. Seems like things are going full circle. I haven't forgot much about detecting, but then one day I realized I was detecting with an antique and wondered if I should upgrade to a newer more high tech model. Tears well up in me to think I would even consider selling this Whites detector. Even though it's not my first 5000D, I have a ton of memories using it ( and the first one). It is like a part of me. I considered buying a ACE 250, but then thought I must be crazy. Its a nice detector but it can't be close to my 6000D, since I know when it was new it was quite expensive. So I'll probably keep the old 6000D and buy a new detector as well. I think I need at least a comparable detector, but with new technology, perhaps lcd display, discrimination, depth reading and the ability to see what your detecting (but that's not that imporatant to me). Can someone please help me. I'm "old school" and maybe that's ok.
