Last year I purchased am AT-Pro to use in fresh water and to serve as a backup land detector for my Deus. I wanted to add salt water detecting to my abilities, so this year I bought a CTX 3030. Now I have to wonder, what do in need the ATPro for? The CTX should be able to fill every need I bought the ATP for and outperform it in every way. It will probably even compete with my Deus as my primary land machine. I'm hesitant to get rid of what is basically a brand new ATP because I think it's a great machine. I just don't want it to be collecting dust when someone could be using it. Thoughts?

If you don´t need the money, keep it, why not? However both your primary machines are superior to the AT Pro in their respective field so if you are strapped for cash, sell it.

But if you have some friends that would like to try out detecting, its much better to have them do that on your spare machine, then your primaries.

The AT Pro has a better then neutral image and seems to somewhat have earned a reputation for quality. In other words it does the job, and it's waterproof.
I do very well detecting in Mexico I see no need to bring expensive equipment there so I don't.
if you ever think that you will be in a place where you worry about your equipment getting damaged stolen or confiscated the A T Pro could serve well for that purpose.
You don't want to lose a $2500 piece of equipment, If you don't have to.

By the way, Now that you have used both detectors, do you think the 3030 is really that much better,?
Is it $1900 better? I'm just curious....

At some point its the Indian.. not the arrow that makes the kill.

I'd be interested in your opinion of the two as well. Had a hunting partner with an older Garrett. He bought the Pro, and after a few hours of hunting, pulled out his older beast and put the AT back in his trunk.

Personally, I like some heft to a beast, not something that feels like a toy, and I like a machine I can hear an entire symphony of sounds instead of just go/no go...

I will offer a comparison as soon as I get a change to put them head to head. My ground is still frozen, so hopefully by next week I'll be able to give a fair comparison.

There's not a single detector out there that will find something if it's not below the coil.
DeepSeeker... Your friend likely traded for his old machine because that's what he was used to and he was comfortable with it.
He found a lot of things with it because he spent a lot of time using it.... So he felt "lucky" when using it.. That leads to more time using it and more finds with it... that's the way it usually goes... like someone's favorite fishing lure.
It doesn't necessarily make one lure better than the other... just the fact one is used more than the other leads to more finds.
There's a lot of people out there that could have $2,000 machine in their hand and I could out hunt them with a $99 Radio Shack machine

That's certainly a given. I'm pretty settled on what I have, and this E-Trac makes 10 different beasts all along the way. All had their charms, which is why I bought them at the time. However, I do still appreciate reviews of toys I haven't tried.

To note, I am quite experienced with the ATP. The one I have now is not my first. I had one before I bought my Deus and it certainly proved itself to me. I feel confident that I could keep up with novice users of an Etrac or Deus with my ATP. I do not feel confident that I could keep up with experienced users of the flagship machines. The sites I detect are detected by several very skilled and experienced hunters using a variety of machines. I can keep up with the ATP, but I want to better than just keep up. My Deus has proved itself as a land machine and has paid for itself very quickly and several times over. However, the Dues keeps me on land. In the hot summer, when the fields are planted, I want to hit the water. The ATP works well in fresh water and on land, but in salt water it isn't as effective. The CTX has earned its place as an elite land machine that can find deep targets as well as any non-PI. It is also very effective in salt and fresh water. From what I hear, the CTX has a pretty easy learning curve. If I can get to know the CTX as well as I know the ATP or Deus, then the price tag will be justified. At least, that's the hope...

Sounds like you've got the bases covered by keeping all three! Land, Sea and freshwater/backup!

hit me up if you end up selling. im in the market for one!!!

AT pro is a great machine. Ive got the AT gold as well as several minelabs and and the gold will not be going anywhere.
