Should I trade in "My SAFARI" or maybe upgrade?

I just got a Minelab "Safari " I dont have enough expereience to make a valued camparison. I still have time to upgrade or trade in to perhaps a more proven machine. I dont see many good things written about it. Seems ok to me Very Light and easy to understand and pretty reasonable to navigate.
any advise would be welcomed!

This is a brand new detector and there may not be very many that have it yet to report on it. It is a good detector and you just need to learn it to get the most out of it. There isn't much to upgrade to from where your at. You could end up paying more $$$ for less machine. There is plenty of time to try other detectors after you have some experience under your belt so you can compare.

My grand son has a GT and i have the XS so i am selling the GT and i got the Musketeer so i will sell the 250 if you get to many you don't know what to use......... That Musketeer is one heck of a detector i don't think to many know much about it..........

I got the same problem, so I always wind up taking at least 2 with me every time I purposly go prospecting. Monty

Having many detectors to chose from for detecting can be a problem too. It is when you start asking yourself it you should land hunt or water hunt is when I start gettintg into trouble as the number of detectors increases. What to use?

Oh ya i forgot i just got a ..Whites DFX. .about 2 weeks ago but i have to wait till the weather breaks to use it and see if i like it. We have snow up to our knees and the temp is 0 at night.............

I have only read about the Safari but as a Minelab detector, it is probably very good especially with multiple frequencies. It should do well in France finding those tiny Celtic and Roman coins. I would keep it but I am surprised you did not get an XP. HH, Mike

I use a Quattro, the forerunner of the Safari.
It does very well for me. I've only used it for a season so far, but have found so much more silver, Indians, buffalos, V-nickels..........
The Safari is supposed to have a better response in trashy areas etc.
The Quattro never was popular I guess, so the Safari is an upgrade to answer the things some people didn't like about it.

I maintain that the biggest reason it was unpopular was that many didn't take the time to learn the machine. I've learned to slow my sweep down, and listen. I've also added a 5" coil, which made the Quattro deadly in trashy areas. I think the new procoil that comes on the Safari will make a huge difference too. I'll let you know in the spring, when I get a chance to use the one I bought on my Quattro.

In my opinion, the Safari is a Quattro, plus or minus whichever way they've decided to remarket it. With these machines, Quattro/Explorer.......it's a matter of coil choice and technique which matter. Considering the response time of these machines, the smallest coil you can get away with and a moderate sweep speed are the answer. You can definitely run over targets if you are sweeping too fast and not taking the time to listen to your signals. That is the bottom line.

I agree Ricardo, if you don't slow down you won't find much of any of the stuff you are walking over.

The Safari is much like the Quattro, but from what I have seen and read of it there are some real differences in the programming. The processor seems somewhat faster too.

I notice I didn't really answer the question in my reply ..........I would stick with that machine. Good FBS technology in a simple format. If you're heavily into coin-shooting, the only thing that would be an upgrade would be an Explorer or E-Trac.
