I went detecting along the curb strip in front of my house today, and found a 1954 nickel, 1958 penny, a 1957 New York State Dog Tag, some change and a Siam Sterling Silver earring. Cool!

Siam Sterling silver was made in Thailand from 1930 - 1980, and reached its zenith during the Vietnam War. GI's on leave and R&R in Thailand bought it for girlfriends and wives back home in the thousands of pieces from 1964-1972. Wonder what this earring would say if it could talk? The earring depicts ‘Matcha,’ the Mermaid Queen.

TS, Thanks for the info on the Siam silver. I needed to make an inquiry on the info you have provided.(nice to have the archive) "How is it I find so much Siam silver in this country" Fact: The U.S. Vietnam service personnel on Thai' R&R is why I see so much Siam Silver for sale out there in antique shops & thrift stores here in the U.S. today.

One other thing I was told is a result of the Vietnam war era, are the late 60's and early 70's Seiko watches I find. They were purchase by U.S. service personnel on duty in those days. I was told you could only buy a Seiko direct in Japan in those times and the U.S. military folks loved the price and design of a well made Seiko and many were purchase by these military folks. All this I'd been told was before the Seiko became widely retailed throughout the U.S. That is how most early Seiko's got to the U.S. These are now very collectible and the three I have in my hand may today sell all total for maybe $700. to $800. usd.

O'ya! Say howdy to the toad for me.
