These Thai pieces were first made in the 1930's and became popular in the 1950s through 1970s. They were most popular during the Vietnam War when soldiers fighting in Viet Nam, or stationed in Thailand would purchase them for their wives/girlfriends back home. It is technically called "Nielloware", which is created by carving out areas of the silver, and baking a metal powder in the carved out areas. The term "Siam" (Thai craftsmanship)was used on these items from the early 1930s well into the 1980s. Breezie

Did they stop calling it siam in 1939? Think I read something about it not long ago.

Still called Siam Jewelry by collectors today. Actually some of the larger items are sometime pretty. (Compacts) Came in several colors black -grey the most common. Have seen Green and White and Blue also.

the country former known as siam -- became thailand offically on june 23rd , 1939 --so the ring was most likely made before june 23, 1939 (imported goods had to be marked with their country of origin back then) --thus -----siam (made) sterling --

but the name "siam" could have been used afterwards of course.

Having lived in Thailand, I can say they are nowhere as orderly as let's say the English. Just because they officially changed the name in '39 by no way means that anything else would change. The word Siam is in English and whoever marked the jewelery may not even know what he is stamping. During the Vietnam War it was a wild and wooley place and you could expect anything. It looks more modern to me but I am no expert.

Yep Siam Jewelry, 50's and 60's. I think if you turn your ring upside down you will see the same little man.
