Just wondering if these might be good to put in the battery compartment when detector is sitting idle especially if humid conditions are present?

Yes.....but......why not all the time IF there is room for one in the compartment! That is what they are made for....removing residual moisture. Won't work if there is a leak for underwater detectors unless the leak is really small.... the packets are only good for a certain amount of time/moisture....they can be regenerated.... Google can tell you how....
