Silver coins #44 and #45 for 2013: first ones I've found in a park since 1995! AND a couple Merry Widows aluminum condom containers. I had low expectations for finding anything good today since I was going to a park. The only things worth mentioning that I have found in a park this year are one wheat penny and a silver ring which was an obvious recent loss. I decided to walk into the forest in between the two levels of the park. I walked about 15 feet in with the Etrac and got a good nickel signal. I pulled it out and saw that silver glint under the black so I knew it was a WWII silver nickel (1945-S) I moved my coil about a foot to the left and got a good 12-45 and out came a 1943 Mercury dime. In this wooded area there were several 3 Merry Widows condom containers literally lying on top of the ground. I found 2 lids and about 5 containers. There were lots of bottles ,cans and screw-caps dating back to the 30's and almost no new trash. Later I found a 1912 wheat on a steep edge of the forested area. Have to say I am excited as there may be hopes of finding more if I can stand all the branches and downed trees in the way. FIVE more silvers to hit 50 for 2013. I now have 10 for August. Hoping to get 3 more before months end to break my month record of 12. Hey small goals ya know, Not like you guys that find 150 silvers a year! ;) File167.webp

nice finds congrats HH

Nice finds.. Congrats on the silver..

I've found nine silvers this year and started detecting back in February. Still learning the SE Pro, but where do you find most of your silver at? I have been hunting the same general area every time and it has been pretty good to me so far lol any tips you could possibly give for new places to hunt? What type of places work the best for you?

The only coins I've found on public property this year are the coins shown in this thread and one Roosevelt dime (and maybe 6 wheats) I rarely to never find anything good except on private property, which is where 99% of my good stuff has come from. I hunt private property almost exclusively.
Advice :knock on doors and ask. Be polite be persistent if you get turned down suck it up and move onto the next prospect. Lately on days I don't detect I look up properties on a GIS website for my county to find owners, names etc. It gives you a little edge to know the name of the person you are seeking permission from. A lot of detectorist's have a fear of knocking on doors and never move on from the 2 wheat cent days at the park after hunting 3 hours. I got burnt out on that really quick. I started with the new Etrac also in February of this year but have been hunting consistently since April when the weather stabilized.

I have a park similar to yours. Hilly and wooded / brushy / trashy. I know it has been pounded since the 1970's and I have been hunting it on and off since 1980. In the wintertime I clear out a 15' X 15' section at a time and I am still finding old coins there. Good luck on your goal.

Thanks! Good luck on the park. In the main areas I barely even get a signal of anything. I'm sure there may be a coin or two but really find nothing for the amount of time spent. Must be warm there in the winter

Nice finds for a hard hunted park. Your merry widows tins sure come out looking better than the ones I have found.

Great finds!Good goals too lol...I have only one silver to my name so far since starting detecting in December of last year a 44 merc but the cool thing was finding it in my own yard.

Congrats on getting silver in a tough park. Always fun finding those merry widows in the woods. Wherever there's activity there's coins =)

They were caked in dirt and crushed when I found them: a little scrubbing and reshaping and they don't look too bad.

This part of the park has not been detected and probably because no one has any idea it was a hangout spot in the 40's and earlier. The silver quarters I found were at 3" or less!
