Silver Bits & Relics

Tides and temperatures finally allowed me out for a dig this morning :hello2:
dug a lot of targets in 4 hours, working on clearing junk from this site to get at the goodies,
first was a 22" oval rope pattern picture frame,
then an ornate brass frame in awesome condition,
antler handle carving knife with silver bolster,
Some type of brass cover with pearls & cabochon
a plain silver bangle bracelet
a handful of coins including an 1882 IH and maybe 1916/18 merc,
Got an pewter plate, holed, but probably quite old,
some ornamental ring with bust,
ashtray marked silver finish 'made in occupied Japan'
lock & cylinder from coin bank, (save your coins and have barrels of money'
Intact harmonica 'hilly billy band' Can't find any info on this :help:
and a match to my other 'Harp ' oarlock.
my largest intact ship spike,
Some pipestems, one 'glasgow' one looks like 'Albert' unreadable other side.
Thanks for looking & HH

Re: Silver Bits & Relics

Herbie, I'm still amazed at the assortment of coins and relics that you find there. Those are some very good finds and the potential is unlimited. I think Modern Miner played in that "hill billy band"-LOL. WTG, Quindy.

Re: Silver Bits & Relics

Very cool digs!

Re: Silver Bits & Relics

Nice batch of Goodies Herbie!
Take Care,
Pete, :hello:

LMAO!
Quindy is 100% correct this time. I used to play the spoons, but now I just sit down and play with my organ. :tongue3: :laughing9:

Herbie,
I think you found everything but the kitchen sink. :icon_thumleft:
Congrats,
MM

Re: Silver Bits & Relics

Holy cow, what a mix there. I love that coin bank cylinder. Thanks for the post. You mentioned tides: "Was that merc in saltwater"? I have pulled some silver from the beaches around here and they are so crusty and have a blue-gray oxidation on them.

Hi mcmurphi,
silver from the salt flats can take many colors & textures,
ones like this from gravel look like copper, ones from mud or sand are usually bluish & crusty, the nice ones come from clay underneath all the muck

Re: Silver Bits & Relics

Hi Herbie :hello: Very interesting finds, you must've had a lot of fun out there today! :notworthy:

I really love the look of the old brass frame. Is it solid brass or is it "stamped" out? :icon_scratch: Would you mind possibly posting or sending me a photo of the reverse side? What are the dimensions of it . . . it looks 3" x 5"? Any thoughts on age? I think probably 1880 - 1900. :dontknow:

What do you think this second item was?

Sorry to be asking so many questions buddy, they're just very cool relics!

Dave

Re: Silver Bits & Relics

Man that is a great bunch of recoveries :icon_thumright: Cool deal :notworthy:

Re: Silver Bits & Relics

Alright Herbie , Can you frame a frame ?? :laughing7: I like the big oval rope frame the best. Though the smaller ornate frame is nothing to turn your nose up at !! The rope frame would be great finds frame with a new backer and a piece of bubble glass !! Great finds all around ! :hello2: :hello2: MaineRelic.

Re: Silver Bits & Relics

Wow Herbie, very nice mixture of finds there. I think the frame is my favorite, but pulling silver is always on the list!

Re: Silver Bits & Relics

Incredible find :o :o :o .... congrats !!!

Re: Silver Bits & Relics

You don't see many harmonicas in such good shape. Nice frame! :icon_thumright:

Re: Silver Bits & Relics
