Unreal!!….and Welcome to the Draped Bust Silver Club!....my one and only banner is my 1800 Draped Bust Dime, my avatar…...and for what it's worth, I had mine slabbed by NGC and it came back VF-35 Details, Environmental Damage and, like yours, had a few hairline scratches as well...... a simply AMAZING FIND!!…..as someone told me when I found my dime, "you should get it slabbed, drool all over the holder and let it inspire you to hunt again and again and again".....advice that I took...:-)

My heartiest of CONGRATULATIONS to you on a simply a wonderful, wonderful save of history, my hat is off to you sir!

HH all!
Greg

Agree! Where you acquired the coin is not a part of the application process. I would agree with advice to take it to the most reputable coin shoppe in your area. They could submit the coin for you and if they do many coins at a time, it's probably less likely to catch someone's eye as a dug coin. I think if PCGS sees a new member request from John Q Public and then receives one rare coin, they look at it more closely and might be pretty quick to assume it was dug, or possibly ask more questions than if it is there normal grading order from a large coin shop client. Just my 02. Take my advice with a grain of NaCl, though. I have never sent a coin in. Mine are all broken. Hahaha *tear

A person walking in a shop with a single rare coin may also raise flags. Just saying to have your bases covered. I had a coin dealer ask me where I got my items from. Me sitting there silently, ignoring the question wouldn’t help, haha. Submitting it to pcgs as a single coin wouldn’t raise any flags with them, but if you go to a dealer it may be cheaper because you don’t have to buy a membership fee and if there are other coins in the submission, the shipping fees would be spread out over the various people who submitted. Plus, the dealer would have the proper holder to put the coin in. Of course you could also just buy one pretty cheap. Best of luck and keep us posted!

Coins are graded on the condition of the coin and all other factors are irrelevant. If you dug a coin that was sealed and mint state... that's still a dug coin and nothing would be lost in the grading.

And just to be counted, I personally would not send it in. I see no reason I would need to do it. Judging the grade and condition is not that hard, and as long as you're close... you're close, and the variety would be easy enough to figure out. I would clean the dirt off it and put it in a decent coin holder, and then look at it every day for the next 2 years. :)

Congratulations on achieving your first BANNER here on Tnet! :occasion14:
What an amazing looking coin find!

Dave

Nobody ask questions as to where it comes from in the application process, you can take it to a dealer and they will answer all your questions. You don't have to lie about anything. When it gets to whoever grades it they are kept anonymous so that no one can be given preferential treatment. So when it is graded no one knows if it is dug, came out of a wall or just was given to you from a relative. Respected coin dealers know how to handle this and will do it free of charge.

Amazing early US silver half! Congrats on such a rare beauty!

Fantastic find!! banner vote from me.

Congrats on what was a no brainer banner.......and I get to keep my detector:laughing7:

Someday I will find early US silver,,,but until them I will be envious of your!!! NICE

congrats! Beautiful coin.

Always funny seeing the subject lines on some banner finds. "Found silver today" "Found a silver half"
throw up a "HIGH GRADE DRAPED BUST SILVER HALF DOLLAR - 1807"

No joke. But sometimes we don't think about that. I had just started this hobby and within 2-3 months I found an 1870 seated full silver dollar.

Being new to this forum I didn't know to think about the headline- so my find got very little attention. Had I titled it right- it should have been up top IMO.

I don't come on here every day- but I have still not seen another seated full dollar and it has been 3 years.

OP- great find. Can we get pic of the side? Only coin I ever found with words on the edge was British.

Sorry only got to reply 100 , I must leave for Church.

Absolutely the best coin I have seen on T-Net in all my years , Just beautiful ...

Beyond Banner ....SUPER BANNER.

WOW WE WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The notation I highlighted in Bold is so true! The only reason the person submitting coin would ever want to send a note with the coin detailing where it came from, is if the coin is rare or potentially rare and has Providence (i.e. it was owned by one or more notable people or known Coin Collectors over the last 100 to 200 years). This is information that you would want noted on the label of the Holder and pay for having it placed on the label as part of the Attribution because in most cases, it will rocket the coin's value through the roof. Coin Collectors with lots of money to spend, seek special coins with Providence and will pay out the nose to get them.

Amazing, truely Amazing half indeed!

Beautiful that's all I have to say

Some edge pictures as requested.
