Hi guys, new to the forum. Stumbled across you guys in my search to find out what this is worth/where it came from.

It is a Silver mounted (Not Plated) crystal whiskey decanter (I think). I cannot find a damn thing anywhere on it.

It entered my family 70 years ago when it was purchased by my great grand parents in Europe as far as I know it is from Europe. It was in a trunk for about 10 years and I don't have any silver cleaner but I managed to shine it up a bit.

The hallmark on it is a shield with a man holding a bow and arrow in it then immediately beside that graphic is a 1714 (Probably not a date but I'd love to know what it means). My camera blows and I don't have a magnifying glass to blow it up.

Can you guys steer me in the right direction? (I pre-apologize for not resizing the picture)

That thing is gorgeous ;D. Don't know anything about it though, not my specialty.

Also, welcome to the forums. :)

From the looks of that valve on it, it could very well be 1700's. They used that type back in those days.

You need to take some pics of the hallmark.

The 1714 sounds like the mold or pattern number of the piece of metal.

Are you sure it's silver and not plated? The edges look a bit worn.

The glass looks like it is pattern glass. Can you get some better pictures and closeups?

Yes I am fairly sure it is not plated. The blemish you see is tarnish. I performed a mild scratch test on the bottom of a foot and there was nothing but silver. When I get my camera charged and find a magnifying glass I will post up the hallmark.

Welcome ;D
You might want to try posting on worthpoint.com I use their site a lot.
Also have quick response time.

I've got no idea, myself, but that thing is a beauty!! Good luck on it!
