Stopped last night at my favorite coffee place and was glad I didn't pay him the extra five cents I owed with a nickel. I instead handed him a dime and got a nickel from him. I don't normally check nickels well, but this one's color and tone stood out. A quick review confirmed what it was. I am in no way putting this into my silver count. Speaking of silver in change, the last time I found anything was close to five years ago, and that was a silver quarter that would not go through the soda machine.

Not saying it's a bad thing to do, but I only count dug with a metal detector US coins on my silver counter.

Well you get to count it as 35% silver, I would say. ;)

Good eyes.......

Hey Ricardo, whats up.. I must disagree with you on this one, you can call me a cheater if you want to. But as a long time coin collector I believe that a valuable coin found, wether you dug it up, or searched thru bank rolls, or picked it up off the sidewalk, or found it in your change is still a "find" in my book. My theory being that it must have been overlooked by many others but "you" were the one to spot it :o right. Sounds like a treasure find to me.. ;D

Harry, you sound too convincing! :) But I must refrain!:) My ultimate justfication will be that I like to organize my sliver coins and display them (I'll take photos someday and show you), and I do point out to family and friends that "Everything here was resting in the ground until they were dug by me". That would not hold true if I mixed them up with pocket finds, etc. I am definately starting a counter for the found in change stuff, but I know it will never be as high as found in the ground!

Best,
Ricardo

I have to agree with I_Dig,..sometimes the hobby/sport is a visual thing, hence you eyeballing out a 43p nickel in the change.
I also look through all of my change no matter what and go as far as looking through the take a penny/leave a penny tray at my local stores(and yes if i take one I'll leave one lol)it's just the detectorist in me i suppose I'm sick like that.Since i began this fantastic hobby my eyes are always peeled, one thing we can all agree on is that we are addicts a find is a find no matter where it comes from.......

A Question for all.....How many times have you walked past a fountain with change on the bottom of it drooling, pondering, and wanted to throw caution to the wind and dive in?????.......ADDICTION :)

Nice find
~Shawn~

Hey Ricardo I've seen pictures of the humungous pile of coins you've dug. I don't think anyone would be the wiser if you dropped that 43P nickel in there buddy, wink, wink...
UnEarthed72 is right this isn't just a hobby it's an addiction..

Harry..

Hey Ricardo,
Nice return in change. Of all the nickles in the drawer, what's the chanmch of you getting it?

Nice job eyeballing that coin. I agree with you. I keep all my dug/detected finds seperate. I keep pretty good records too. Congrats.
