I purchased several watches from an estate sale. This pocket watch is older than the others. I've done some research and found a father and son with the last name POTTER working in London around 1780-1800. I was told it has a fuzee movement. It is NOT working. Any additional information would be appreciated. Any idea on value? Thanks for the help!

Movement Photos

I am adding a couple of photos of the movement of the POTTER watch.

Can't help you with value, but that's a fine looking old watch!

Its called a "pair cased" watch (the open winder holes allowed dust/dirt in so the outer case protected it) and a fusee movement is chain driven. If you look with a loupe, it resembles a mini bicycle chain.

Unless you have one made by a somewhat desirable maker, they are somewhat unremarkable. I collect pocket watches and would be excited to fine one of those for a good price, working or not, at and estate sale.

Repairs could be pricey and not always worth the expense unless its super rare. It could just be dirty/gummed up but a cleaning/service still might run you $130+

Still a nice find!!

Wow an 18th Century Pocket Watch. To think this was hand cut and assembled. Very cool

Beautiful pocket watch! :occasion14:

I've seen a few fuzee pocket watch movements for sale, but none ever as complete as the one you found. That's a pretty unique find.

Great score I love old pocket watches
