yes! hold the coil above the target you have found, slowly raise it till it nulls out (goes away) the slowly lower it the height of the coil off the ground(when it starts to fade or drop off totally)it will give you an idea off how deep it may be (unless its a pot of smelly old food)then use your nose... ;)

Yes, Dekalb said it best. Though it isn't important to know a targets depth. If it beeps loud enough, you should be able t touch it with a probe like a screwdriver.

Tesoros in general are designed so a coin sized object gives a loud sound up to about 5 inches depth. Beyond that, the sound gets weaker as the coin gets deeper. For a Silver Sabre II, the loud sound might be only out to about 4 inches. Not sure, though. You might have to experiment with air tests and a coin garden.

Thanx guys,

I will have to do some testing in this regard. The ground here is mainly like rock.... you need a pickaxe to break through. The only places where the ground may be softer would be the sports field and parks, and peoples gardens.

I am using a garden trowel at this time (soon to change) and you have to use it like a axe to get down to the find. I am looking at making a pipe-auger, and a knive like AP makes.... so will be able to get better results then. I just thought, that if I could work out the depth of the object, it may be easier to know what tool to use to retrieve it.

Anyway, thanx for all the advice, I will give them all a try and see what works. I have just made a probe from a welding rod, and a handle.... will try it out on the weekend....

God bless
Peter
