Found this at a teardown site in Gastonia N.C. At first I thought it was a fob but I think its to thin for that. Its ingraved M.H.C and has what I think is a makers mark, but can't tell what it is. It looks like a W with an arrow through it and a small 6. It also says sterling. It looks milky white. How would you clean it?

Could this be the mark?

If so, The Webster Company out of Massachusetts

WOW! Nice find. "Sterling" is always a pleasant surprise, isn't it.
As far as cleaning, you might want to try a non-abrasive cleaner. Something like Tarn-X will take off a very thin layer of the material--which is what the tarnished portion is anyway--thus exposing the fresh material below, and it will not scratch. Follow the simple directions and use a very soft cloth. You can find Tarn-X at most hardware stores, super markets, and household supply stores...in the cleaning section. Some very serious collectors would suggest you NOT clean it, but something like your find would look much better polished, IMO.
