No idea what this is, obviously its been broke/plowed off of the item as a whole. It appears to be made out of silver and has a very finely detailed "M" monogrammed on the base. Its also two pieces filled with some unidentified material...

HELP!

Large (carving?) knife handle. Filling is cutler's rosin. Brick dust or chalk and rosin. If you scratch it it should smell like pine pitch.

Seems to be too small for a cane...but thats a good guess, I also like the knife idea because thats along the lines of what I was thinking....

I'm thinking like a handle part to a candle snufter or something used in religeous rites.

is it too small to be the top of a cane?

Oooh! Good one! Could have been, but would have had to be round once upon a time. But looks like it has had a hard life.

Size is OK for a cane top. Same with umbrella handle. Still could be a knife handle too... they are oval.
