I had just found 2 mercs for yesterday's thread and went back again this morning. I really have hammered this place and have been hitting the few places that had been too grown up to hunt but were at least doable. The 1928 Merc wasn't the best signal at all, the tones was sloppy and the numbers bounced pretty badly. I really thought that I was digging trash but to my surprise, the little lady was shining up at me. Silver #21 FTY, pretty awesome!
A little bit later, I had a hard hitting signal and dug the button. It was coated with a thick coat of caked on dirt and I thought it was just a big button and put it in my trash pouch. Later, while eating lunch with my wife at the school in the parking lot, I remembered the button. I pulled it out and handed it to the wife who excitedly began to wipe the dirt off. I kidded her and said that it might be a military button since I found it a little ways from where we had found all of the WWII finds. She got even more excited as she said, "Eagle!" So I am pretty sure that it is at least WWII. Any ID info would be awesome.
From what we could see, the back says U A M on the top and C O on the bottom.
Now while it may not be a Rev War or a CW button like so many of you guys find, we think that it is super cool and out right awesome. It still has some color to it and the guys that we found the dog tags to all went to North Africa. Gotta love this hobby! Jerry
