Well I got a chance to get out with my dad and and my uncle(unclevinn) to a spot that we have hit before with really good results. We have found a big variety of coins and gold rings even dating back to the mid 1700's. Probably about 10 years ago, my grandfather put us on to this spot. he said that when he was teen he and some friends would take a boat out to this island to swim and picnic. He also said that people were doing this for years before he did.
So, with this particular lake being some what drained for the fall and winter months, we were able to walk to the island and had a huge sandy beach to MD. It started out pretty slow, (we have worked this pretty hard over the years), but it wasn't too long when my uncle popped out a 1902 V nickel. Then between all the shot gun shells and fishing lures/sinkers my dad uncovered a nice 1912 V nickel. I was getting kind of discouraged but kept at it. I just knew there was more good stuff to be found. After digging a few more bullet shells I got a really sweet tone that I could tell had a little depth. I dug down about a 6-7 inches and re-scanned the hole. Nothing. So at this point knock over the top part of the sand pile I took out of the hole and I see a black disc the size of a quarter. I immediatley thought seated, but I was wrong. It was a 1912 Canadian Quarter. Oh well, I guess I will take it
The rest of the day was really slow. I ended up digging a 1908 IH and a 1909 wheatie.(Not pictured because it is toasted). Thanks for looking and happy hunting. And for some of us, get it in while you can before the cold weather gets here and the ground freezes solid.
