Slow start but BAM-Mississippi Button surfaces

Head a good day digging today with Dave and Smokey in Virginia. It wax a cold and breezy day in low 40s and I could not buy a decent target today with my XP Deus. My last hour of the hunt I was able to snag a NY Zouave ball at about 6 inches down and not more than 15 minutes later I got another faint mid 60s range target and another 6 inches down I was rewarded with a 2 piece button with a crease on front but I’ll take her! There is lettering around the front-careful cleaning revealed a Mississippi button-my first. I still can’t make out the backmark yet and there is a letter in the star; I’ve dug 4 Rebel buttons in the last 4 weeks. which Any Mississippi button experts out there? The XP Deus sure loves the brass buttons! Happy Hunting!

That looks like a Missippi I button. Look closely and you can faintly see the top bar of the I in the star point below the s.

Worm Slicer! Thanks been cleaning the button and could not really make out the letter due to the crease in the face but I can see your point that top part which may be the top part of the “I”. Still can’t believe I dug my first Mississippi Confederate button.

Thanks never thought I would dig a Mississippi button; I’m told these bad boys are hard to find in civil war relic hunting circles. By the way yours is a Beaut!

Yep, they are tough to find. The pic is the only one I've found and I was lucky it's in perfect shape. Would love to find a "C" Mississippi button, but those are super rare.
