Small Metal Piece - Brass, Bronze? What could the metal be? AND WHAT IS IT???

[Marie0424]

Found this small metal piece today, have yet to decide what kind of metal it is. Or what it could be? It is in the area of a 1700's spanish wreck and a 1700's english wreck. Inside the top, the smaller part it appears to be threaded, as if for something to screw in.

Can't wait to hear your thoughts! Thanks!!!

drawer pull/knob

Yeah, we could see that definitely. It looks like it is missing something out of the pull part, like maybe an ornamental piece.

Cigarette vending machine pull knob.
OR any vending pull knob for that matter... IMO of course.

A lot can happen on a spot in 250 years.

Try screwing a 1/4"-20 bolt into it. That is my guess on the the diameter and thread count based on the photo. If it screws in it's post 1864.

Of course if it's corroded, it won't screw in anyway but it is worth a shot.
