here is the one I found last night
as usual it is small
it sure seems that the points from the Dakotas are way smaller than most

Nice one. Wonder why all your points are so small when the game they took was so big?
For small game I guess. You have any points still in buffalo bone? I saw one once buried in a skull. The guy lived and the skull healed around it. It stuck out a inch or two. Imagine what people would say when you walked by. As always thanks.

hey thanks tnmtns and 11 kbp
the points around here are small
I have seen a few bows and they were only about 36 inches long
I have also seen arrows with the small points
I never find any bigger arrow points
I saw a bison skull with a 1 inch long point embedded in it about ten years ago

The below picture is of a bison skull found in 2003 with a Calf Creek embedded in it.

I blew the pic up and looked at it. Do you think the Bison survived and that wound healed. Lots of bone in that area. Interesting guys. Thanks

Most of the side notched points you are finding Larson are true arrow points and although small they were indeed lethal weapons for bison hunting.

On an educational note you guys are saying what so many people do not understand. The time frame of the bow and the points that tipped the arrows. People see a large knife and say what a beautiful arrowhead. Its deceiving to the new collectors or hobby guy. True arrow points are small. Might make a good post this winter when we get bored

thanks tn, I agree, I don't think the bow and arrow have not been around that long compared to the rest of the tools(weapons)

This guy didn't live long enough for healing to take place TnMtns. There's a good chance this wasn't the only hit the animal took.

You are right I see the fracture running up into the base of the horn. That would have healed for sure. That point was buried. A lot of force in that hit. Wish i could have taken a picture of the one I saw.
Thanks
