Some time ago, I posted a pic in which the wise sages on this forum informed me the larger object on right was a trigger guard from an 1808 Springfield musket. While sorting through other finds from the same dig site, I came across a much smaller version, on left side of pics, although the dimensions and depth don’t match up with the larger version.

Question is, could this even be a guard as it doesn’t have the depth for a finger? It doesn’t have the style to indicate it was a drawer/door handle either? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated dated.

It looks like it might be a trigger guard for a pistol, it also looks like it may have been flattened at some point. I own an 1836 Johnson military horse pistol and it looks similar (I’ll break it out and have a good look later) maybe from a 1816 North contract pistol. I’ll post a picture later today. Very cool anyway, I like that springfield trigger guard !!
