I'd buy retreads snow tires. I think they were like 10 bucks each back in the day. Not sure they offer retreads anymore?. In the 70's this was the unstoppable snow car. Not good on gas, but it sure get you home in a blizzard. You could pick one up for around 800 bucks in the later 70's and it would win every time in a collision with a Subaru.
Yep same here on the Retreads. I know the Place near me that used to do their own Retreading
no longer does.
I think Truck Tires still get Retreads.
At least I still see the long pieces of Rubber laying along the Interstate on Occasion.
ever see a Tire with a Goiter ?
I've had them

not quite this bad though.
I remember a State Cop. Used to pull me over every time he saw me.
Ask me how life was treating me. Look at my Tires & say something along the Line
"You look like you need different Tires on That thing soon"
soon ?
they were usually the same tires I had on Last time he stopped me

He knew I couldn't afford tires & that a Fine would have only made it harder to save up.
I bet that don't happen these days.
& My cars were always Auction Cars. in Most cases Big Heavy & $200 to $250.
someone would always Hit me & because of Age and Condition, Total it & give me a Check for
$300 to $500. I would then go to the Local Junk yard for Car parts & JuryRig it for the Road,
till Next Crash or till I ran the Cars into the Ground.
NOPE ! I NEVER got rid of a car before it's time.
If it didn't need to be loaded on a Flat Bed,
and I could find a garage willing to sell me an Inspection sticker .
I drove it.
I think My sister has the Photo Albums
I'll have to ask next time I'm over.
My biggest Heaviest Car a '59 Buick Lesabre

Only I brush painted it something like This
and would go though 2 feet of Snow no Problem.
when it Wouldn't. I'd throw Chains on & go anyway
