I was just wondering if anyone in the So Cal area is planing on hunting the minus tides tomarrow morning or next week. I was thinking about going but 4am is a little early. But if I had some company it might be easier knowing I'm not the only crazy person out there. Let me know you So cal people. I normally hit huntington or newport.

good luck if you go. Conditions are still terrible from what I have seen. We never had erosion this winter. No storms and no normal larger winter waves. So instead of "noraml" cycle erosion the beaches sanded instead of eroded. My local socal beaches (north of you)are sanded in a good 20-70 feet past normal towel line location for this time of year. And no slope at all. Place is so flat I you could walk 100yds off shore and maybe be in waist deep water. Hope they don't get any worse this summer or may take a couple "normal" winters to open them back up. We need rain bad not just for the drought but to bring some waves to get the massive amount of light fluffy sand off the beaches. This being said you can always get lucky and find that pocket that has some slope and hard sand. I saw some cuts yesterday but only into fluffy sanded in area. I hate to see yet another batch of negative tides go to waste. I am not expecting any heavy gold found (unless recent drop) but light gold and silver is always possible. good luck. Let us know how you do.

I went to my local beaches today at about 7am (earliest I could due to work) and it was still decently low tide. I had my wet suit on and got about chest deep for about an hr til my excal acted up on me. Anyways, NOTHING.. ZERO.. Not even trash signals...So Cal beaches are also colder waters compared to places like Florida that seem to be popping off right now. Only ones getting in the water are surfers and kids. Mix that with the above comment and you have a bad cocktail. It takes HOT weather to get people to jump into 60-65 degree water. Summer is barely here. I figure by late Aug it'll be better. Until then it's just gonna be slim pickings.

I was thinking Sunday morning might be fun. At say Manhattan beach pier?

Doesn't help that globs of oil and tar keep washing up on the shores around here either, really puts a damper on the beach crowds...

It would be the rare morning that you would be alone on those beaches! Good Luck!

Im up in Santa Barbara. The wet sand and low tides have produced very little the last few months. The dry sand is picking up as the tourist begin to deposit the local beaches. Summer is around the corner, and it should pick up. I added a 15 inch wot coil to my excel. Digging deeper coins but no bling items. Having fun LOL Joe

Thanks everyone for the replys. I ended up going a little late. Nothing but bottle caps to show for my efforts. Owell

At least you got out for a bit! Which is awesome!
And about that oil on the beach, it seems if I set foot in the water I get this tar/oil stuff on
my flops or feet! I've thrown away two pairs of Reef flip flops because of it!
I remember that happening a lot when I was surfing in the 70's!

I went down this morning just to get exercise. Flat sanded pathetic. Decided to try dry for a bit thinking after weekend of beach goers. virtually nothing. A whopping $0.40. It appears since wet is so terrible, everyone is getting desperate and hitting dry. I scouted over 15 volleyball courts and not a penny or even a bottle cap. This means the place is vacuumed clean. When there is even little to no trash in dry guess it is back to hunting dirt. But even on way home hit a couple tot lots just to find something. They were also vacuumed. No high tones but a lone quarter missed. dug 7 nickels as the local vacuum boy passes on mid tones.

I went out 5:00 am with the neg. tide. Nothing found but did get a early start to the day.

Right on. I got a late start today and the beaches are much busier this week. At my house (about ten miles inland) it's 94 today. Beaches were 80 and the sun was beating. I prefer night runs where you can take your time, no ones in your way and it's nice and cool/cold.
