Cliff and I were out early yesterday. Up to this point I found one nice silver ladies ring. Then all I here is "hey you're not going to believe this" and I say "what!". Cliff wouldn't answer me. So I say "what did ya get"? Cliff pulls his scoop up slowly out of the water and a hand grenade is hanging off his scoop by it's trigger handle. Not sure if this first video will work but it's video Cliff took when he found it. Sorry for the language. The second link is the local news story.

Most likely, there is more from where that came from.
There is a lot of unexploded ordinance from WW2 and still some from the Civil War that is still dangerous.

A few years ago, the bomb squad detonated a land mine found on one of the popular local beaches I detect on.
No big deal, except you could hear it go off several blocks away and the windows rattled.

Just another reason why I prefer to detect with an Excalibur in the discrimination mode.

Saw you guys on my local news here in LA. Scary stuff!

Made for an interesting day, dolphins, manatee, grenade and some rings...... normal day in Florida..... Ha Ha Ha
The video DC posted was supposed to be a photo of it on the scoop.... maybe I was rattled a bit by the sight of it hanging there cause I pushed the wrong button on the camera and took video instead....

I saw this on the FOX 13 website. I figured I would check and see if you guys posted it on Tnet. I like your video better than Fox's!

News media says you were in twenty feet of water when you scooped that thing. More accurate reporting ....

Ok, I'll say it...BANNER!

cool but scary find!

They got most of it right, but they heard "deep" when I said "from shore"
Of the 3 or 4 reports I saw/read, each one had something wrong.....

Great find and story. Yes I say banner find..

1974 I was an MP at Fort Dix, NJ. Some kids wondered onto an old range and found what they thought was a dud grenade and started playing catch with it. No one died but one kid lost his hand when it exploded.
You should treat any find of ordnance as dangerous.

When there are targets like this in the water.
A wide can shaped fully enclosed stainless steel basket with 1/8 inch size drain hole size works best (lol).

Before buying such a stand up water scoop, make sure that it has a life time warranty, which is transferrable.

I came home the afternoon that the story aired and my wife asked if I knew two guys named Chris and Cliff that detected. I said yeah, that's DC and CDV. She said they were on the news today for what they found at St Pete beach. My mind started racing, thinking Spanish treasure, gold bar, queens jewels...then she said grenade and I said at least they didn't get blown up. :icon_thumright:...now I can say I know someone famous. :laughing7:
