DeepDiggerEXPII, OutRaged, Karl from Upstate Detectors and I hunted all day Sunday...

I dug clad, shell casings and junk all day :(

Until I dug the whatchamacallit and the 1??7 Indian Head pictured below!

By the end of the day, I was beggin' for atleast a cool button, when that IH popped out of the last hole I planned to dig for the day :)

I sure wish there was a clear 8 & 7 in front of the other 7 ::)

The coin is in some olive oil right now.

With any luck I'll be able to read the date after the soak.

Or maybe this is an error coin???

Dunno...

Heck, I don't even know what the other item is :D

OutRaged found one just like it as well ???

It was a fun day and a pleasure to meet DeepDiggerEXPII!

HH,

Looks like you got yourself a belt plate-sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Let us know if you make out the date on the IH

Ooh I long for the day I see the indian pop out of a hole I have dug. Was with Baldingboy when he found his first one.

Nice coin and cool finds.

Thanx guys!

Would a belt plate be that small???

I really lucked out with that IH...

It was right there on the lip of the hole after I popped the plug out with the relic shovel :)

Not much digging involved ;D

BTW, These items were found in OutRaged's wonderful Flowing Hair Silver Field!

The history buried in this field is unreal!

Could be off of a shoe maybe??

My Exploder II is supposed to be here tomorrow and I cannot wait. I love my sister's X-30 and I hope I enjoy the new machine as much.

That field produces again. I like when the find comes at the start of the day rather than the end. but either way it's good. That IH should clean up nice and then you will be able to tell.......

1887? A little touch of acid will bring the date back right before your eyes .... just a little acid.

Beautiful coin, I wouldn't clean it too much, beautiful patina!!! Congrats!

Smiles!

Nice Indian, but be carefull cleaning it, you don't want to lower it's value. Keep em coming!

Nice! I'm in the same predicament with an Indian I found this afternoon. I know it is 18_8 :-\

Well after a long soak in olive oil...

I can read 18?7...

Not that the second number was a mystery :D

But that pesky third digit's identity is still eluding my 28 year old eye balls ???

Isn't an 1877 IH a rare find???

I guess that whatcha... could be off a shoe :-\

After all, a matching pair of these were found!

A friend suggested that it might be a bridle rosette.

It might just be the pic, but I'm seeing 1887. Can you post a close-up of the coin?

Cool IH! I am seeing 1897 through my trusty magnifying glass. Yea...get a closer shot of it! Hahahahah! My ID should be BAAT (blind as a bat!)

Nice find...Melnatcat

Now looking at it closer I can see a 9...1897, and yes 1877 is the lowest mintage coin. Can you invert the picture?

You guys obviously have better vision then my 20/100 8)

I was looking right at the damn coin and couldn't make anything out.

It's still soaking, I'll take it out tonight and wipe her off.

More photos will be taken at that time and posted!

After soaking, I would only use a soft bristle toothbrush and dish detergent.
I put the pic in PaintShop Pro and messed with the contrast a bit. It looks like an 8 to me but Im only going by a pic of a dirty coin ;D You'll never know for sure until it's cleaned a bit anyways.

Cool Finds tho :)

My best guess would be 1887. That is one of the most common date IH pennies I find.

My vote goes with 1887 as well... As much as I would like it to be 1877 ::)

Here are some more pics, more educated guesses are more then welcome ;D

Thanx for lookin' and the date ID help,
