I believe that your button is actually made of brass.

Yeah, you need to do an acid test on that thing. What made you think it is gold? What detector did you use and what was the reading?

I think it might be more accurately described as a brass button with a bit of gold plating remaining .

The Crown is a Quality Mark used on Gold Plated Buttons, not gold ones.

Nice find! Sure hope its solid gold, but I'm not so sure; probably plated.

The green corrosion clearly indicates high copper content. The rather blotchy gold color is an indication of plating. Gold plated brass. Nothing more.

Time for more coffee.

Not gold, but nice find none-the-less. As others have said, brass with some remaining gold gilt.

this is front of button thanks for reply’s I just think to much detail has been put on this button to be brass has lovey detail on and for the green that has slowly come of as I’ve cleaned it

Depending on how you cleaned it, you may have just gone through the corrosion and down to the original brass. It looks like it might have said "PLATE" or "PLATED" below the shank. - Not sure.

If it's gold, then it's an exceptional find.

Sorry Gold Digger. It's just a gold gilted brass button like these. When you dig real gold you'll know it.

Consensus is a Brass/gold plated or gilted button.

IT definitely doesn’t say plated and one side is thicker than other half looks hand crafted I think it could be military button or summet
