Just refinishing an old little portable style pie safe and started sanding the crusty latch when i spotted this just barely showing thru. I hope its not ruined for the sandpaper . But it's the hardware ill be reusing reguardless.

If you're doing antique refinishing you have to be very careful.
Patina is required for knowing authenticity and age.

If the owner has to have it 'original' then-
Lower pressure soda blasting is probably the best thing for non-removables.

Yes, the ‘V.F. Paris’ with crossed keys, is for the French company Vachette Frères (Vachette Brothers).

They were founded in 1864 in Troyes, France, initially as Bresson-Vachette, before becoming Vachette Frères in 1865 and becoming a leading French locksmith in the late 19th century. The company was known for supplying locks to major Parisian furniture makers. The Vachette brand is still in use today by the ASSA ABLOY group.
