This summer has been slow and I have not been posting much.

Today I went out looking as usual and had a little success at a old site that I have been to at least a couple dozen times.
Was really surprised to find anything, as it seems like the last ten times I have hunted this spot I haven't found crap.
Dug a musket-ball, followed by a nice 1812 pewter script I button, and one more plain flat button.
Just goes to show there is always more there if you keep trying.

Figure since I haven't posted much I would add some other finds from the past few months.

Dug a 1812 Artillery corps, a couple minnies, and a really ornate watch winder on one hunt a few months ago. The watch winder and a dropped Minnie were in the same hole, and they were deep..

Got a neat carved enfield a few months ago. I don't dig many enfields.

For those of you who like tokens. I got on a nice site a couple months back in downtown Gulfport. The town only dates back to the late 1880's.
Ended up with 5 Gulfport locals and 8 silvers.
4 1890's Evans and Pierce Saloon Tokens, and one Parlor Drug Store.

Congratualtions on the nice finds! :occasion14: Glad you were able to detect! :icon_thumleft:

Congratulations bonepicker that site is rough. I’ve drove the 1/12 hours to get there 4 times and came up empty. That is one incredible button from a totally pounded out sight. You are the man.

Thanks Truth. That was one good site in the beginning, wish you could have been there from day 1 when they started dozing it.
Don't know how I missed those buttons in the past, guess you just gota go slow and low, and be stubborn.
The pewter was shallow, but masked by iron. Somehow I squeezed out a decent tone of 47 running 8k with my 9" coil. Usually nickels hit around 50+

Thanks Bart. The summer hasn't been bad, just really hot and humid, and I have been stuck in about a 2 month finds drought.
I also started bottle digging, and im in the learning curve stage. Mostly digging late 1800's to early 1900's slicks, and busted pieces.
I keep going back to that site because I dug so many good things in its early stage. 5 Spanish silvers, etc, etc.
Its pretty brutal now, but there is always more if you keep trying.

Nice finds! :icon_thumleft: Those tokens are neat. But I like the watch winder the best! Very cool! 8-)

Great script I button! Really love those old turn of the century tokens too!

John

Congrats on the great day and the watch winder is a winner:icon_thumright:

Thanks Jay. That is the second one from that site. I also dug about 8 of those plain heavy flat buttons.
Really curious if there was a small camp there at one time, or if they were lost post-BONOLA.
The site is still wide open. They cleared it last fall, and stopped development. Hit me up if you ever want to go.
I went back the following day and dug a silver rosie, so who knows what else could still be there.

Fantastic group of finds, love digging those 1812 script I pewters...maybe someday the 1812 stuff will get the attention it deserves among button collectors

Couldn't agree more. The War of 1812 seems to be largely ignored.

wowza I live in a crappy town. Those finds are amazing
