This is what Robert Converse says about Ohio Birdpoints in his book Ohio Flint Types.

Time period - 1,900 BC

Information and description
Called Birdpoints because of their small size, these small projectile points have been found on many Ohio and midwestern prehistoric sites. They were long thought to be Mississippian in origin since it was assumed that the bow and arrow did not make its appearance until well after 500 AD. However, recent research postulates an introduction of the bow several thousands of years ago. Thus Birdpoints, which are probably true arrow points, are much older than previously believed. Two Birdpoints were found with a burial at the Duff Site, a Glacial Kame location in Logan County, but it was not clear whether they were the cause of death or burial accompaniments. Such a context would place them in the second millennium BC. Birdpoints were specifically dated at the Sabre Farm in Ross County at 1,900 BC.
The most common style of Birdpoint has a corner-notched design with a small fan-shaped base. The blade is triangular and is often lenticular and shaped by fine pressure flakes. There are other varieties of diminutive points found in Ohio, such as small Bifurcates, but these are probably not related in time or culture.

Size From 3/8 to 1 1/4 inches

Here are some examples of Ohio Birdpoints. Now lets see yours if you gottem and here what you all have to say about Birdies.

Nice batch of arrowheads. Heres a few I found while I was stationed out on the W. Coast back in the early 80's. I'll try to get pics of some of my Caddo ones later.

On a dime , my camp. of lithic little hangin' with some of his lit' buddys

I've read that out here in S.D. County , Cal . , only about one in ten arrows were tipped with stone-points . The balance were cane-shafts with a 8-10 in. pointed fore-shaft. These are supposed to have been used on small-game / birds .

Miss Molly liked my clear-quarts points , so I've added this pic. of some crystals that I found on some camps , I've also read that some believed that there arrows flew , better/ faster ? with points made from them . The large black crystal is tourmeline , also from a camp .

OK, heres a little of my Caddoan birdpoints. These are from the N.E. Texas counties of Bowie, Titus, and from my parents farm in Franklin county. The triangulars of course would be the most recent. Called "Talco" points are from the late Caddoan 1400 to 1650 A.D. The others are from the early Caddo period, and a couple from the Coles Creek which preceeded Caddoan. Combined would run from 500 A.D. to about 1200 A.D.

Very nice examples Bent-Twig. Thanks for showing those to us.

Thanks for the comment on my points Bent-Twig. I went through all of my trays and pulled out the best Birds I had to make that tray. I just recently added a few more that I hadn't taken out of my Best Points tray and put them in there so I need to take another picture of it.

Here are a few of my better small Bifurcates.
