✅ SOLVED some kind of brass double ended clip?

found this last year and I still cant figure out what it was for.Pretty sure it is brass.It says "The MP" on top of the round end,and all I can make out underneath is "applied Pat. for"?hope someone knows,I can't figure this one out.

I think your on to something there AARC,a tie clip crossed my mind but couldn't think of how it would have been worn.Never heard of a double tie.Wonder what The m.P might stand for.Military police,member of parloment?
