Good morning T-netters!

This one has me stumped. Found it yesterday in a section of woods that has produced items from the 1700's-1800's. When I pulled it out of the ground, I thought it was just a piece of scrap metal. But after cleaning off the dirt, I noticed the hooks on the back.

If anyone has any thoughts, I'd appreciate it. Also found this coin in the same general area. It weighs 5.3 grams, and is 23 mm in diameter. As you can see, its toasty to the max!

Thanks for taking a look!

Either a decorative harness strap end or decorative harness mount.

I think it belongs on a rifle sling, to put your monogram on.
